“Serving In The New Way”
Romans 7:1-6, Sunday, February 19, 2012
“We have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit.” - Rom. 7:6 (NIV)
In Christ, believers are released from the bondage of the written law of Moses. We have a new Master, Jesus Christ. Are we lawless? No. We have the law of Christ, the new covenant law written on our hearts. (Jeremiah 31: 31-33) What are we to do then? We have a new life to serve Christ and bear fruit for Him. Does this mean the law is no good? Worthless? Evil? Absolutely not!
Paul explains in the rest of chapter 7 why the law is holy and good. And he conclusively shows that only Jesus Christ can deliver us from sin’s reign. Only Jesus Christ can deliver us from the just condemnation of the law. Read ahead in Romans 7: 7-25 and prepare your heart to understand the great things Christ has done to rescue you from sin’s dominion.
